Our favourite young treasure hunters, Lara, Rufus, Tom ,and Barney are back and this time they’ve conned, er, I mean, convinced, their Uncle Logan to take them to Egypt! They’re on the hunt for one of the greatest treasure troves in history.
The Adventurers (and their friends) are back for another adventure
In their last adventure, cousins Lara and Rufus spent the summer with their Great Uncle Herb at his castle in Cornwall and met a new friend, Tom (son of the castle’s caretaker and housekeeper). This time Tom is visiting Lara and Rufus in London during the October school break.
When Lara’s mom, an Egyptologist, is called away on business, she leaves them in the care of Lara’s Uncle Logan. The kids start digging through Logan’s things and find a stash of letters from Lara’s father (who has passed away). The kids realise that the letters are clues to a great treasure … in Egypt.
When their search for answers in London leads nowhere, Logan gets the brilliant idea to head to Egypt, taking the the kids with him. While in Egypt, the children meet Maye, the little sister of Karim, a friend the group met in their last adventure.
Suspend your belief and enjoy the ride
Some people might think that this story is far-fetched, but it’s a kids’ adventure story and they don’t need to be grounded in reality. I mean, let’s be honest, when I was a kid I was reading about phantom tollbooths and mice that rode on toy motorcycles!
While this tale is definitely not a realistic one – kids running around Egypt without their parents’ knowledge, evading bad guys, looking for a long-lost Egyptian burial tomb – it is still lots of fun. I know lots of kids will get a kick out of the sense of adventure these characters share. The book is fast-paced so children definitely won’t be bored reading this.
I had decided to get my nephew Book 1 after I had read it but now it looks like I’ll be adding this to his little library as well. He’s still a bit young but I know in a year or so he’ll really enjoy hearing all about The Adventurers! Personally, I can’t wait to see what they all get up to next!
p.s. Can we talk about how gorgeous the illustrations on the covers of this book is (Book 1 is has an equally fun cover)? I love the whimsical nature of them an they go along with the style of the story perfectly. The covers were created by Andrew Smith and you can see more of his work here.
