Monthly recap: October 2019

Well, it’s the end of the month (again!) October seemed to go by really quick. The weather has really turned quickly and it’s definitely Autumn (or Fall) here in Toronto. The leaves have changed colours and the temperatures are hovering around 10 degrees Celcius most days. I’m not a fan of cold weather, but it does give me the excuse to stay inside and cosy up with a book.

A couple of months ago, I was really behind on my reading (I think Goodreads had me at about 8 books behind schedule for my goal of 60, but this past month has been REALLY good in terms of reading. I managed to read a whopping total of TWELVE books in October (I’m kind of shocked that I read so many).

A huge chunk of my October reading was due in part to the Veronica Speedwell series. I have had these books on my TBR for about a year and finally got around to reading the first book. And then the second, third and fourth. I blazed through all four books in 9 days! I have to admit I stayed up late and even got up early to read these books, something I haven’t done in a long time. As you can probably guess, I really enjoyed the series and am looking forward to the next instalment. My only problem now is I read them so fast that all the plots have blurred together – I’ll have to sort things out before I can do proper reviews!

In any case, here are the books I managed to read in October:

  • 2019 GoodReads Challenge: 48/60
  • 52 cozy mysteries in 52 weeks: 18/52 read; 12/52 reviewed

I’m so happy with how much reading and blogging I was able to accomplish in October! I hope that I can keep this up from now on. I definitely need to review all the books I read this past month, plus November means my most anticipated book of 2019 is coming out – The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. That’s a brilliant month of reading, Stephanie! The Veronica Speedwell series must be special if you read them all so quickly. Have a great November!

Thanks Stephen! Now I have to remember what I read so I can blog about it! I really did enjoy the Speedwell series – the main characters were so fun and engaging and the stories were really interesting. It was a great “light” historical fiction and I think I was in the mood for something like it since I’ve been reading a lot of books outside my usual genre (for blog tours and such). It was nice to get back to the genres I really love. I hope you had a good October too!

  2. Looks like you’ve had a fantastic reading month! =) I’ve heard quite a few people talk about the Gilded King, but not had a chance to read it yet.

I did have a much busier reading month that I ever expected (those Veronica Speedwell books really took me by surprise) – now I just have to catch up on all my blogging! LOL! I hope you had a good month too!
